The Corner of 1st and 9th

I've been at this corner since 1997.

Not nearby. Not in the East Village somewhere. This corner. 145 1st Avenue, at 9th Street. The same address where I got my first job the day after I arrived from Turkey. The same address where I was fired six months later. The same address I bought in 2003 when I heard the owners were selling.

I borrowed $25,000 from my aunt to do it. I didn't have the money. I had the conviction.

Twenty-seven years later I'm still here. Same corner. Same oven. Better pizza.

The Neighborhood

The East Village is not a concept. It's a specific place with a specific character — and 1st Avenue is its spine. This street runs through the middle of it: bodegas, restaurants, bars, the kind of foot traffic that doesn't stop at midnight. The people who live here chose to live here. They know what's good and what isn't. They've been coming to this address for pizza for almost thirty years.

That's not marketing. That's just what happened.

Why the Address Matters

When someone searches for pizza on 1st Avenue in New York, or pizza near 9th Street, or just pizza in the East Village — I want them to find this place. Because this is genuinely the best pizza at this address, in this neighborhood, that I know how to make.
